The former world number 21 beat Stefan Kozlov in straight sets on Tuesday to set up what should be a robust baseline exchange with Jiri Vesely after the Czech ousted Feliciano Lopez in two too. World number 69 Vesely stunned Alejandro Davidovich Fokina over five mammoth sets at Wimbledon two weeks ago before a straight-sets defeat to Tommy Paul, with Johnson also reaching the third round before a comprehensive defeat to Cam Norrie. Three sets seem likely here, especially as Johnson beat Vesely in four at Roland-Garros earlier this season, and that could be a valuable alternative to picking a winner. Johnson, though, will have experience and the crowd on his side and this match seems likelier his than the Czech’s.
