World number 37 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina provided the first huge shock of this year’s Wimbledon with a five-set thriller over last season’s semi-finalist and Halle Open champion Hubert Hurkacz. Davidovich Fokina already has great Grand Slam pedigree as a former Roland-Garros quarter-finalist and he is well-versed in five setters, with this his seventh since the 2020 Australian Open. It should not come as far as that in this first meeting with world number 68 Jiri Vesely but the Czech is no stranger to a baseline battle and well capable of snatching at least a set here.
