24-year-old Jil Teichmann set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 22nd earlier this month after a superb swing on her favoured clay, including runs to the semi-finals at the Madrid Open and the round of 16 at Roland-Garros. The Swiss has lost back-to-back games on grass since but she could be a real threat with a kind early draw as a player who builds well on momentum. The Swiss has lost both of her grass-court matches in three sets this month, though, and faces a tough opener against last season’s quarter-finalist Ajla Tomljanovic. The world number 45 reached the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open and more recently the round of 16 at the Eastbourne International, where she lost to eventual runner-up Jelena Ostapenko. This looks like one of the tighter first round clashes on either side of the draw, so back the Aussie to win at least a set as the more comfortable on this surface and leave the winner up to chance.
