THE PREDICTION
Former world number five Jelena Ostapenko claimed her second WTA title here at the Korea Open back in 2017, the same season she burst onto the scene with an incredible run to the Roland-Garros title. The 25-year-old overcame another young Grand Slam champion in Emma Raducanu on Saturday after the Brit was forced to retire in the third set of their semi-final. Top seed Ostapenko has been struggling to reach her best tennis over the last few months and this is a tricky match-up for her against world number 24 Ekaterina Alexandrova, who leads their head-to-head record 3-1. The 27-year-old beat Tatjana Maria in straight sets on Saturday but she has enjoyed the kinder of the draws overall. Alexandrova beat Ostapenko here in Seoul in their first meeting back in 2018 and most recently at this season’s Madrid Open but it is still hard to see Ostapenko not finding an extra gear here. Given her record, though, the sensible option looks to be taking the Russian to win at least a set and leaving the champion up to chance.
