THE PREDICTION
World number 16 Jelena Ostapenko is the top seed in Birmingham but she survived a scare on Tuesday in a three-set victory over qualifier Rebecca Marino. The 25-year-old won the fifth WTA title of her career and a first on grass at last season’s Eastbourne International and after a customary dip in form she found her world-beating best at the Dubai Tennis Championships in February to claim a sixth WTA title. World number 79 Dayana Yastremska grabbed a first win on grass this season with a straight-sets victory over Magda Linette. The 22-year-old finished runner-up to Shuai Zhang at the Lyon Open earlier this season but she has so far struggled since, losing in the first round of her last two tournaments. Ostapenko will get better with each passing round but Yastremska is something of a sleeping giant and well capable of an upset. Back Ostapenko to win outright here.
