World number 58 Jaume Munar grabbed the best ranking win of his career over world number two Casper Ruud on Tuesday, ousting the Tokyo Open top seed in impressive straight sets. In doing so, the 25-year-old assumes Ruud’s portion of the draw and, at least on paper, easier fixtures for the next two rounds at least. World number 68 Pedro Martinez will be eager to pounce on this opportunity too, though, after a straight-sets victory over Alexei Popyrin on Monday. The Spaniard, also 25, beat his compatriot in their only previous encounter at the Chile Open this season, taking out Munar in three sets on his way to a maiden ATP title there. Munar lost out on clay but a hardcourt probably suits him best in this rematch and after beating Ruud he can be sided with to edge this outright. However, back Munar to win at least a set inside an accumulator.
