THE PREDICTION

World number 79 Jasmine Paolini grabbed an impressive result on Tuesday in a comeback victory over Jule Niemeier, in keeping with her recent performances at this level. The Italian beat Kaja Juvan in three sets as defending champion at the Slovenia Open two weeks ago before losing in three tight sets to the eventual champion Katerina Sinakova and she should be in enough form to oust compatriot Elisabetta Cocciaretto here. 21-year-old Cocciaretto upset sixth-seed Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in straight sets on Tuesday for a first tour-level win since late July and she will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 89th no matter the outcome here. The pair have never met at tour-level before but Paolini’s experience, and impressive win over Niemeier, makes leaning towards her to edge this outright seem a reasonable risk.
