THE PREDICTION
World number 13 Jannik Sinner lost to Tommy Paul in three sets at the Eastbourne International for some disappointing grass form coming into Wimbledon. The 20-year-old has taken on new coach Darren Cahill, who aided Simona Halep to the 2019 Wimbledon title amongst other successes, with a view to improving on his already impressive game. Sinner could do with a new voice after what has been an ultimately frustrating season so far and with the likes of Carlos Alcaraz surpassing him as the newest kid on the scene.
The Italian lost in the first round of Wimbledon last season on his weakest surface but he has reached at least the second week in four of his last five Grand Slams. However, former world number three Stan Wawrinka is a really short straw here and the Swiss has beaten the two top 30 players since returning from a long injury lay-off. Wawrinka leads Sinner 2-0 in their head-to-head record and his vast experience on grass suggests taking him outright to provide one of the early upsets is a reasonable move. Backing Wawrinka to win at least two sets would be a suitably cautious pick for a promising accumulator.
