World number 55 Sara Sorribes Tormo has played fabulously so far this fortnight in Madrid, enjoying the high altitude clay conditions as a pacy counter-puncher, and she will be backed to the hilt as the last female Spaniard left in the draw. The 27-year-old comes off two enormous results over former number three Elina Svitolina and former number one Victoria Azarenka but this looks too steep of a challenge against world number one Iga Swiatek, who has often proven to be a horrid match-up for the Spaniard.
22-year-old Swiatek conceded just two games to Sorana Cirstea on Saturday as she aims to claim a so-far elusive maiden Madrid Open title, her last remaining top clay-court trophy to secure, and she has comfortably beaten Sorribes Tormo in each of their previous three meetings.
