THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Hubert Hurkacz has battled through two tough opponents in three sets, first in-form Frances Tiafoe and then Emil Ruusuvuori on Thursday. The 25-year-old can make some crucial ground in his pursuit of the ATP Finals after Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev lost their round of 16 matches this week but he faces another tough draw against former world number 12 Borna Coric, who beat Stefanos Tsitsipas from a set down on Thursday. 25-year-old Coric beat Tsitsipas the first time around to claim the biggest title of his career at the Cincinnati Masters and after some struggles with consistency since this second victory could settle him back into a forceful groove. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record with a win on clay for Coric in 2019 and a leveller on hardcourt at the 2020 ATP Cup for the Pole but both players have pushed on since then and this looks very close indeed. All of their combined four matches this week have gone to three sets, so perhaps taking that option is a suitable way to avoid picking a winner.
