Defending champion Novak Djokovic made it 17 wins on the spin on Saturday but dropped his first set since July in a tight contest with Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 35-year-old has now achieved enough points on tour to qualify automatically for the ATP Finals even without his exemption for winning Wimbledon this summer but he will be keen to go to Turin in two weeks’ time with his streak intact. The surprise finalist is 19-year-old Holger Rune, who broke Felix Auger-Aliassime’s fearsome streak on Saturday with another remarkable performance. The Dane will make his ATP Masters debut on Sunday and his fourth final of the season, with titles won at the Munich Open and recent Stockholm Open and a runners-up medal from last week’s Swiss Indoors – where he lost to Auger-Aliassime.
Rune has beaten world number one Carlos Alcaraz this week and four current or close top 10 stars as his game continues to improve at an incredible rate but this should be a step too far against Djokovic. The former world number one is in his groove right now but three sets are pretty likely if Rune can maintain his level. Back Djokovic to claim a record-extending 39th Masters title.
