18-year-old Holger Rune claimed a career-best win over world number three Alexander Zverev on Wednesday, stunning the out-of-sorts Munich Open top seed in straight sets. Rune will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 64th as a result, with his straight-sets victory over fellow up-and-comer Jiri Lehecka also impressive this week. Not to be outdone, 23-year-old Emil Ruusvuori will also set his new career-high ATP world ranking to at least 58th after back-to-back straight-set victories over Yoshihito Nishioka and Maxime Cressy. The Finn has needed top 10 opponents to oust him from his last three tournaments, with Jannik Sinner beating him twice at the Miami Open and Monte-Carlo Open and Casper Ruud knocking him out in Barcelona but Denmark’s Rune will have plenty of support after charming the Munich crowd. His victory over Zverev was as much about his level as the German’s lacking but take Rune to win at least a set in this first meeting and leave the winner up to chance.
