World number nine Jessica Pegula overcame a stern test by Donna Vekic on Tuesday, beating the Croat in straight sets. 28-year-old Pegula has been enjoying the season of her career so far with deep runs to the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros both ended by world number one Iga Swiatek and she has been unfortunate enough to draw the Pole in her quarter once again this campaign. The American also reached a first Masters final at the Madrid Open on clay as her abilities start to transfer from a brilliant hard-courter to a genuine all-courter and she will be a danger to anybody at SW19 – apart from perhaps Swiatek. World number 94 Harriet Dart is also enjoying the best season of her career at 25 years old. The Brit did not need a wildcard to enter Wimbledon for the first time this season after excellent results over the likes of Jil Teichmann, Marta Kostyuk and Camila Giorgi on grass this month and she will be well-backed on Court 2 by a partisan crowd.
Pegula should eventually have too much for Dart but it would not be a bug surprise to see the 25-year-old force a decider here. Back Pegula to win outright.
