30-year-old Camila Giorgi matched her career-high WTA world ranking of 26th, first set back in 2018, this week after an impressive run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros. The Italian beat Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to reach the second week in Paris in similar fashion to her victory over the world number two Sabalenka at last season’s Eastbourne International on grass. Giorgi went on to enjoy some of the best form of her career last summer, culminating in a first Masters title won at the Canadian Open. World number 114 Harriet Dart also enjoyed her best run at a Masters event recently with a stunning run from nowhere to the round of 16 at Indian Wells via impressive results over Elina Svitolina and Kaia Kanepi. The 25-year-old grabbed a solid result over Donna Vekic on Monday and she will be backed to the hilt as a home underdog by the Nottingham crowd to make this first meeting with Giorgi interesting.
Giorgi is one of the more unpredictable players on the WTA tour but also one of the more powerful once she gets firing. Realistically she should be able to come through this match the outright winner.
