World number 85 Gregoire Barrere beat Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets on Sunday to get a strong foothold in at the Moselle Open and he could be a dark horse for a deep run in conditions that suit him. The 29-year-old has previously enjoyed indoor hardcourt tournaments, particularly on home soil, and he won a Challenger event in similar conditions in France back in January. 21-year-old Harold Mayot made a splash at Wimbledon this summer, beating compatriot Bejamin Bonzi before a tight exit to Guido Pella, but this is his first tour-level tournament since. The younger Frenchman qualified well over the weekend before an impressive three-setter over Yosuke Watanuki but Barrere should have more than enough power to win their first encounter in these conditions.
