THE PREDICTION

This is such a huge opportunity for two players ranked outside the world’s top 100 to reach the second week at a Grand Slam for the first time. Both world number 118 Katie Boulter and number 115 Harmony Tan have already set their best Grand Slam runs by reaching the third round, Tan via a stunning upset over Serena Williams in the first round and Boulter via a second victory over former world number one Karolina Pliskova in the space of a week on Thursday. Both players have been inside the top 100, but not that far inside, and the lack of points at Wimbledon this season looks its cruellest yet in this circumstance. 24-year-old Tan beat Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets on Thursday for a seriously impressive result after the biggest win of her career but she will have to cope with being thrown back into the spotlight on Saturday as she takes on home hopeful Boulter, who will be backed to the hilt.

Boulter has the power to blast Tan off the court in this first meeting but the Brit’s movement is her clearest weakness and Tan has already exposed that to beat Serena Williams this week, against the crowd’s wishes. Taking the Frenchwoman to win at least a set looks the sensible course of action here in leaving the winner up to chance.
