Sebastian Baez should be targeting his first second week at a Grand Slam but this is no gimme against a plucky debutant.

GUSTAVO HEIDE VS SEBASTIAN BAEZ PREDICTION

World number 20 Sebastian Baez won his fourth and fifth ATP titles on clay back-to-back at the Rio 500 and Chile Open in February to prove both his credentials on his favoured surface and his penchant for a winning streak. The 23-year-old owns six ATP titles overall after back-to-back wins at Kitzbuhel and Winston-Salem last summer, perhaps even more impressive in transitioning from clay to hardcourts, and if he can find some rhythm early in Paris he will be a tough draw for anyone.

22-year-old Gustavo Heide will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 155th after qualifying for his Grand Slam debut here at Roland-Garros, coming back from a set down to edge his opening round 10-5 in a tiebreak to make a big statement of intent.

The Brazilian has enjoyed some strong results on the Challenger circuit this season but he has been unfortunate to draw one of the top clay-courters so early. Expect a great atmosphere between two South Americans but Baez should be coming through this first encounter in tight straight sets.
