THE PREDICTION
World number 25 Alex de Minaur overcame Maxime Cressy in three sets on Thursday to back-up an impressive opener against second seed Andrey Rublev. The Aussie turns 24 today and whilst six ATP titles is an excellent haul for someone so young there is no doubt that the former world number 15 expects more of himself. Former world number three Grigor Dimitrov grabbed one of the biggest shocks of the week in Rotterdam with a tense win over Hubert Hurkacz in two tiebreaks to suggest he is in better form than we might have realised. A three-set capitulation to a clearly injured Novak Djokovic in the third round of the Australian Open last month looked a missed opportunity but then again the Serb went on to lift the trophy with no further dropped sets, including his round of 16 dismissal of De Minaur. The Aussie leads Dimitrov 2-1 in their head-to-head after taking their most recent meeting in Montreal last summer but this looks set to come as close as their only previous indoor match did, with De Minaur edging things in the European Open semi-finals back in 2020. Take De Minaur to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
