THE PREDICTION
World number eight Felix Auger-Aliassime enjoyed an excellent run of form on indoor hardcourts last season and it was here in Rotterdam that he finally broke his duck, winning his ninth ATP tour final to claim his maiden title last season. The Canadian has never had to defend a title before and it will be fascinating to see how he fares. A straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Sonego is an excellent start against a fellow indoors hardcourt lover and he should be able to double down with another straight sets victory over Gregoire Barrere. 29-year-old Barrere set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 71st this week after enjoying a run to the quarter-finals in Montpellier last week where he beat the defending champion there but Auger-Aliassime is a significantly tougher player to knock down than Alexander Bublik. You could consider adding at least a tiebreak here with five played in Barrere’s last four matches but otherwise back Auger-Aliassime to take this in two.
