Former world number six Gilles Simon has indicated that the Paris Masters will be the final professional tennis tournament of his long and illustrious career but his level so far also indicates he is not ready to depart just yet. The 37-year-old backed-up a huge win over Andy Murray in the first round with an incredible three-set victory over world number 10 Taylor Fritz amidst raucous scenes in the notoriously partisan atmosphere at the Palais omnisports de Paris-Bercy. Five of the Frenchman’s 14 ATP titles were won in France but going all the way here would be by far Simon’s greatest achievement, unthinkable at first and now every native fan’s dream here in Paris for the remainder of the veteran’s campaign.
