Former world number three Dominic Thiem came back from a set down to Marcos Giron on Wednesday in style, handing the American a third-set bagel. The Austrian looks to be, tentatively, making big strides towards returning to the top of the sport now after struggling since his return from surgery but this will be his toughest match yet this week against world number 29 Francisco Cerundolo. 24-year-old Cerundolo beat Manuel Guinard in straight sets on Thursday in his first fixture this week as the fourth seed and the Argentine has often found an extra gear this season against the better players on tour, eventual defeat or not. Beating Guinard snapped a four-match losing streak on hardcourts for the Argentine and his confidence should be boosted ahead of this likely thriller. Back Thiem to earn at least a set here as the just-about likelier of two very capable winners.
