World number 13 Taylor Fritz made short work of Andy Murray on Tuesday, conceding just four games to struggling former world number one. 24-year-old Fritz looked in much better shape than his three-set defeat to Dan Evans at the Citi Open last week, where he was forced to retire in the third round due to complications with a foot injury he aggravated in a thrilling five-set defeat to Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last month. World number 24 Frances Tiafoe, also 24, came back from a set down to beat Benjamin Bonzi in a tight opener in Montreal but it was a good response to a gut-wrenching three-set defeat to eventual champion Nick Kyrgios in the quarter-finals of the Citi Open last week. Tiafoe beat Fritz in their first encounter way back in 2016 at Indian Wells but since then Fritz has won three-straight meetings, including in straight sets at the Australian Open back in January. This could come down to the wire with Tiafoe in excellent recent form but Fritz is enjoying the best season of his career and a confidence-boosting victory over Murray should see him edge this outright.
