World number 140 Yannick Hanfmann grabbed one of the best results of his career on Thursday, dumping out the home favourite Dominic Thiem in four sets. The 30-year-old has reached two ATP finals before, most recently here in 2020 where he lost to Miomir Kecmanovic, but he will have to go against the crowd’s wishes once again as he takes on another Austrian in Filip Misolic. The 20-year-old has claimed his first three tour-level wins this week as a wildcard well spent in Kitzbuhel and his efforts against Dusan Lajovic on Friday were mightily impressive, coming back from a set and a break down to beat the Serb. Misolic will take almost a quarter from his current world ranking of 205th no matter the outcome here but having already played three sets this match looks like leaning towards the experienced German. Backing Hanfmann to win at least a set could be the shrewdest move of all here as it covers for the chance that Misolic may not even finish a second match of the day whilst also allowing for a miraculous day for the youngster.
