THE PREDICTION
Former world number 11 Sam Querrey is in his element on the grass and he showed it on Tuesday with a dominative display over the fifth seed Diego Schwartzman. The 34-year-old won Queen’s back in 2010 as one of his career total of 10 ATP titles and he famously beat Andy Murray in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2017 before losing to Marin Cilic in the semis. World number 48 Filip Krajinovic enjoyed the bigger shock of the round, though, with a comfortable straight-sets win over Jenson Brooksby. The 30-year-old is at his best on the clay but recent impressive results over the likes of Frances Tiafoe, Reilly Opelka and Andrey Rublev depict a player in serious form that makes this a tougher call than it should be. Querrey has the tools to go all the way at Queen’s and his penchant for grass makes him the favourite despite Krajinovic’s form. Backing the American to win outright is a reasonable risk but you could be forgiven for taking him to earn at least a set inside an accumulator.
