THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Matteo Berrettini looked in great shape against Botic van de Zandschulp on Saturday, coming back from a rain delay to tie up loose ends in straight sets. The 26-year-old is riding an eight-match winning streak after claiming the sixth ATP title of his career at the Stuttgart Open last weekend, with his fifth coming here last season in a three-set victory over Cam Norrie. Berrettini is the clear favourite to defend his title here against a really surprising finalist in world number 48 Filip Krajinovic, who bested Marin Cilic in straight sets yesterday – breaking the in-form former champion three times in a searing display. The 30-year-old has been pigeon-holed for years as a clay-court specialist but his best run on tour came in finishing runner-up on a hardcourt at the 2018 Paris Masters and he has looked a totally different player this week.

Berrettini has won both of their previous meetings, including a final at the Budapest Open back in 2019, and backing him to win outright here remains the reasonable option but this could come seriously close if Krajinovic can stay in the moment.
