World number 48 Filip Krajinovic played well to come back from a set down and beat crowd favourite Ryan Peniston on a sweltering Friday at Queen’s. The 30-year-old has suddenly found some superb form seemingly from nowhere with recent victories over the likes of Andrey Rublev, Reilly Opelka and Frances Tiafoe but his run to the semi-finals of a grass tournament is pretty impressive considering his heavy preference for clay. World number 17 Marin Cilic will be by far his toughest foe this week, though, as a former Queen’s champion and Wimbledon runner-up. The 33-year-old has found some wonderful tennis left in his locker over the last few weeks and he beat an impressive Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets on Friday to improve on his campaign in London. This first meeting between the two could be a choppy, topsy-turvy one but backing the former world number three to come through outright seems reasonable enough on his favoured surface.
