World number 11 Emma Raducanu overcame a tough opener on her Madrid Open debut, coming back from a break down in the first set to beat the Czech in two. The 19-year-old is yet to complete a full 12 months on the WTA tour but she has already displayed an excellent aptitude for grass, hardcourts, on which she of course made history at the US Open, and there are now some encouraging signs on clay after a decent showing against Iga Swiatek last week.

World number 60 Marta Kostyuk looked in great shape for beating fellow future star Clara Tauson in straight sets on Friday. The 19-year-old reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros last season and she came close to emulating that earlier this season at the Australian Open in a brilliant three-set defeat to Paula Badosa that displayed her potential.
THE PREDICTION
There are few secrets on court between Emma Raducanu and Marta Kostyuk, both 19, after growing up facing each other in the juniors. Raducanu lost heavily to Kostyuk in the quarter-finals of last season’s Cluj-Napoca Open in in Romania but this match has the potential to come a lot closer with the Brit in much better shape in recent weeks. Still, Kostyuk is clearly a talented clay-courter with plenty more experience on the surface and backing the Ukrainian to win at least a set as the likelier winner looks the sensible move here.
