This is a surprising third round fixture but world number 97 Taro Daniel and number 54 Emil Ruusuvuori thoroughly deserve their places after upsetting seeds on Friday. 30-year-old Daniel continued some excellent recent form to blast past an out-of-sorts Alexander Zverev in straight sets, handing the German a bagel in the first set, whilst Ruusuvuori beat Roberto Bautista Agut for the second time in two weeks after also ousting the Spaniard at Indian Wells. Daniel has now stunned Casper Ruud, Matteo Berrettini and Zverev this month playing the sort of tennis he has always been capable of but rarely found enough of to maintain a deep run but this is a brilliant opportunity for both players to reach a rare round of 16 at this level. 23-year-old Ruusuvuori enjoys the conditions here in Miami but back Daniel to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier of two very capable winners.
