Defending champion Camila Giorgi overcame world number nine Emma Raducanu in straight sets on Tuesday, including a 7-0 tiebreak in which she found her very best rhythm. The swapping between Toronto and Montreal each year at the Canada Masters means that Giorgi is not defending her title in exactly the same conditions she won in Montreal last season but it will be fascinating to see how far the Italian can go this week with little recent form.
