World number 37 Alize Cornet has enjoyed a renaissance year on tour with brilliant runs at the likes of the Australian Open and Wimbledon. The 32-year-old has intimated that 2022 may be her last full season as a touring professional and claiming a first WTA title since 2018 would be a wonderful way to cap it off on Sunday. Cornet is yet to drop a set this week after a huge victory over in-form Veronika Kudermetova on Saturday and she looks the slight favourite on results in this final with world number 42 Elise Mertens. 26-year-old Mertens looked assured in a straight-sets victory over Claire Liu on Saturday but she has stuttered and faltered her way through the draw a little at times. The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record after Mertens levelled things at the St. Petersburg Open in three sets back in February but back Cornet to edge this final with the extra motivation of time running out.
