World number 23 Elena Rybakina played out one of the matches of the season this week in a three-set defeat to Coco Gauff at the Canada Masters. The 23-year-old is a red herring at her current ranking and she should be considered a top 10 player by right, and form, after winning her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last month where ranking points were controversially withheld. 26-year-old Mayar Sherif set a career-high WTA world ranking of 44th back in July but the Egyptian suffered an injury at Roland-Garros cruelly after coming through the first round well. Sherif lost in straight sets on her return to the tour in Washington at the start of August and this looks a very short straw in her second. Back Rybakina to win in straight sets.
