THE PREDICTION
World number 114 Ekaterine Gorgodze made her Grand Slam debut at Roland-Garros last season but she is making just her second appearance a major with a Wimbledon debut here after some strong success on the ITF circuit. The Georgian has drawn a fairly short straw against world number 43 Irina-Camelia Begu, though, with the Romanian reaching the round of 16 at Roland-Garros late last month before a three-set defeat to Jessica Pegula. A deep run is unlikely for the 31-year-old on grass but a first tour-level meeting with Gorgodze is a kind draw considering she has not played since that defeat to Pegula. This is probably worth keeping away from an accumulator with both players coming in cold from the clay but Begu should be coming through this match-up comfortably.
