World number 37 Aslan Karatsev won the third ATP title of his career at the start of the season with a searing campaign at the Sydney Tennis Classic. However, until very recently the Russian has been seriously struggling with his form, especially his trademark intensity, to leave him with a poor 14-17 record for the season so far. Back-to-back quarter-finals reached at the Bastad Open and Hamburg Open, both of which were lost to in-form Francisco Cerundolo, were promising runs and he will likely feel more confidence coming into this first tour meeting with world number 80 Dusan Lajovic. The 32-year-old is far better than his current ranking suggests, especially on his favoured clay, but his form has been dwindling for some time now on tour. Lajovic beat Vitaliy Sachko in straight sets on Monday but it is hard to see him oust Karatsev on the up here. Three sets is just-about likelier than two here, so back Karatsev to win outright.
