THE PREDICTION
World number 60 Dominik Koepfer beat Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets on Wednesday to open his Dallas account strongly. The 29-year-old German is a former college star with a strong affinity for US tournaments and could serve him well in this intriguing first encounter with Rinky Hijikata, who announced himself an up-and-comer with his excellent run to the round of 16 at the US Open last summer. The world number 88 beat Ethan Quinn in straight sets on Wednesday to snap a three-match losing streak but he was playing well in Brisbane last month, beating hard-hitters in Thanasi Kokkinakis and Tomas Machac before falling to eventual champion Grigor Dimitrov. Koepfer brings some serious form into Dallas, though, after winning the Canberra Challenger this time last month and taking Alexander Zverev to four sets in a tight defeat at the Australian Open. Back Koepfer to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable quarter-finalists.
TIP: DOMINIK KOEPFER TO WIN A SET
