This is a huge round of 16 clash between two former top 10 players in Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista Agut. Whilst RBA is still a mainstay of the top 20 these days, the Spaniard’s best days are likely behind him and it will be interesting to see how he fares in his first match back since covid-19 saw him have to pull out of Wimbledon. If the 34-year-old is fit and firing this should be a step too far for former world number four Thiem but the Austrian is also an anomaly right now after claiming his first tour victory since his comeback from surgery. 28-year-old Thiem came back from a set down to beat Emil Ruusuvuori for a first tour win in 14 months and it will be fascinating to see what this means for the rest of week, let alone the season. There are too any outside factors to include this match inside an accumulator but backing Thiem to win at least a set seems a reasonable risk given Bautista Agut’s recent illness.
