World number 82 Richard Gasquet got the better of old foe Stan Wawrinka in a gloriously nostalgic three-set thriller on Monday, coming back from a set down and three match points. The 36-year-old snapped a three-match losing streak in doing so, stretching back to an exit to kryptonite Rafael Nadal in the third round of the US Open, but wins against the likes of Lorenzo Musetti and Miomir Kecmanovic in recent months are impressive. 20-year-old Dominic Stricker first came to the fore last summer as a potential rising star of Swiss tennis but he has so far struggled to push on in 2022. The world number 136 grabbed one of the best results of his young career on Tuesday, though, to oust seventh-seed Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets. Youth versus experience should make for an interesting first meeting between these two players but a day’s rest from his win over Wawrinka should see Gasquet ready for the challenge. Back the Frenchman to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
