21-year-old Xiyu Wang reached the quarter-final of the Granby Open this week before losing in straight sets to eventual runner-up Daria Saville and she will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 75th on Monday. The Chinese youngster also made the semi-finals of the Citi Open earlier this month before losing to eventual champion Liudmila Samsonova, with victories over the likes of Victoria Azarenka suggesting she is in strong enough form to oust another rising star in Diane Parry. However, world number 74 Parry went one further in Granby with a semi-finals defeat to eventual champion Daria Kasatkina and the Frenchwoman has been impressing on tour this summer with back-to-back third round exits at Grand Slams in Paris and London. Neither player has won a first round match at the US Open but Wang is the only player with a hardcourt result at this level. Back the Chinese to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
