THE PREDICTION
World number 48 David Goffin came back from a set down to beat the 24th seed Frances Tiafoe in a well-contested second round match on Thursday. The Belgian has been resurgent in recent months , after spending much of the last two years in the wilderness, winning a sixth ATP title at the Marrakech Open last month for a second on clay. Goffin took Rafael Nadal all the way in a three-set thriller at the Madrid Open earlier this month and he has excellent recent results over the likes of Botic van de Zandschulp and Hubert Hurkacz, whom he beat in straight sets at the Italian Open two weeks ago. World number 13 Hurkacz has been something of a sleeper hit so far in Paris with back-to-back straight-set victories over Italians Giulio Zeppieri and Marco Cecchinato.
The Pole is at his least effective on clay but it is hard to see him falling so easily against Goffin this time around. The sensible compromise here is backing both to win at least a set and leaving the winner up to chance.
