World number 37 Kaia Kanepi came back from a set down to beat Anna Kalinskaya on Friday, doing so for the second time in a row after a similar result over Lin Zhu. The 37-year-old is always a big threat but it is rare to see her this deep in a tournament, with her last final coming back in 2021 but way back in 2013 before that where she won her fourth WTA title. World number 80 Daria Saville took out the defending champion and top seed in Jessica Pegula on Wednesday and she backed that up with victory over in-form Rebecca Marino in the quarter-finals. The Aussie was ranked outside the top 400 at the start of the season after years away form full tour life but she can move back inside the top 70 with a further win here. The pair have not met each other on court for over a decade so this may as well be their first encounter. Based on her result over Pegula this week, back Saville to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable finalists.
