World number 12 Daria Kasatkina has twice come back from a set down this week at the German Open but she has ousted two serious competitors in Anhelina Kalinina and in-form Ekaterina Alexandrova. The 25-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of 10th back in 2018 after reaching back-to-back quarter-finals at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon and she recently set a new benchmark by reaching the semis in Paris two weeks ago. World number six Maria Sakkari avoided a real banana skin against Daria Saville on Wednesday and the Greek is yet to drop a set in Berlin. The 26-year-old is prone to the odd slip-up but Kasatkina is more than just a threat in this particular match-up having won each of their three tour-level meetings including in three sets at the Madrid Open last month. The Russian is in the better current form, and probably the more comfortable on grass, and with each of their three previous encounters seeing three sets take her to edge this outright.
