World number 11 Daria Kasatkina received a bye to the second round of the Guadalajara Masters as the seventh seed after enjoying her best, most consistent season on tour. The 25-year-old recently won two WTA titles at the Silicon Valley Classic and Granby Open on hardcourts but her best result in 2022 was a huge run to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros back in June on clay, which probably remains her best surface. 28-year-old Lin Zhu has been enjoying some solid form of her own over the last few months and the Chinese could set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 62nd after upsetting Alize Cornet in the first round. Kasatkina has struggled to impose herself on draws in recent weeks on tour but the Russian has beaten Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez in her last two openers and a first meeting with Zhu should not be as difficult. Back Kasatkina to win outright, probably in two.
