World number 93 Danka Kovinic enjoyed some of her better form earlier this season with a run to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open. The Montenegrin took that form into Indian Wells, where she stunned Jil Teichmann and Karolina Pliskova on her way to the third round, only to lose in a tight battle with Liudmila Samsonova. That was the first meeting between the two and since then 23-year-old Samsonova has improved to reach world number 26 off the back of a run to the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open, where she became one of only a few players able to take a set from Iga Swiatek in defeat. The 25th seed won her first WTA title on grass last season at the Berlin Open and she could be one to watch here if she gets a good run-up. Back the Russian to win outright, though two sets should do it.
