This looks the match of the round at the Canada Masters between world number one and reigning champion Daniil Medvedev and world number 37 Nick Kyrgios, both of whom are riding winning streaks from title wins last weekend. 26-year-old Medvedev beat Cam Norrie to the Los Cabos Open title on Sunday for a perfect return to the tour after missing much of the grass season and he will find confidence in his four-set victory over Kyrgios in the second round of the Australian Open back in January, where he went on to finish runner-up to Rafael Nadal. Former world number 13 Kyrgios, though, carries a five-match winning streak from a more prestigious tournament in Washington and he has already made that six with victory over Sebastian Baez on Tuesday, although the Argentine broke Kyrgios’ serve for the first time in that span.
27-year-old Kyrgios leads this head-to-head record 2-1, with his most recent result over Medvedev coming in the Washington Open final back in 2019, but the Russian is arguably the best player in the world in these conditions over three sets. A decider seems likely but a tiebreak likelier still, with three of their last seven sets seeing one. Back Medvedev to win at least a set and add at leas a tiebreak here, leaving the winner up to chance.
