The 32-year-old has beaten four top 40 players since the start of last month, including Taylor Fritz on two occasions, in some serious hardcourt form that should see him take a deep run at this tournament but world number 95 Taro Daniel is tougher than his ranking suggests. 29-year-old Daniel snapped a four-match losing streak with a straight-sets victory over up-and-coming Emilio Nava on Tuesday and he is well capable of stunning Evans if the Brit has not moved on from Great Britain’s Davis Cup exit last week.
