THE PREDICTION
This looks a really tough call on Tuesday between two players who have found excellent form over the last few months on tour. World number 27 Dan Evans reached the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters back in August and can count the likes of Karen Khachanov, Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz amongst his victories since returning to hardcourts – as well as some impressive close defeats to Marin Cilic at the US Open and Felix Auger-Aliassime in Antwerp. Meanwhile, world number 50 Brandon Nakashima claimed his maiden ATP title on home soil at the San Diego Open in September and he has impressed all season long as remarkably consistent at just 21 years old. Nakashima beat Evans in straight sets in their only previous meeting at last season’s Citi Open but the Brit is arguably in the much better recent form. Three sets seem likely here and that could be a valuable alternative to picking a winner here but otherwise take Evans to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier of two very capable victors.
