World number 13 Jannik Sinner recently won the Umag Open for a sixth career ATP title before his 21st birthday last week. The Italian boasts an excellent 38-11 record for the season so far after consistent runs to the latter stages of almost all of his Masters events this season and huge runs to the quarter-finals of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, the latter of which he stunned Carlos Alcaraz in four sets before a five-set defeat to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Sinner reached the round of 16 here last season before a straight-sets defeat to Alexander Zverev.

23-year-old Daniel Altmaier would likely fancy his chances in this first meeting if it took place on his favoured clay but the world number 93 is riding a six-match losing streak into the first round of the US Open with little confidence in these conditions.
