World number 23 Coco Gauff looked in great shape on Wednesday in a straight-sets victory over a good Alison Van Uytvanck. The 18-year-old set her best Grand Slam record here last season with a run to the quarter-finals ended by the eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova. Gauff took that form straight into a second WTA title won at the Emilia-Romagna Open on clay, where she first met and beat Kaia Kanepi in two tough sets. 36-year-old Kanepi is at home on the clay too and even more so at Grand Slams, where she is renowned for giant-killing. The Estonian veteran took out Garbine Muguruza from a set down on Sunday before a straight-sets victory over Beatriz Haddad-Maia in the second round and she is a two-time quarter-finalist in Paris from 2008 and 2012. The former world number 15 completed her set of major quarter-finals earlier this year at the Australian Open to prove she is still a force to be reckoned with.
