World number three Maria Sakkari was a set and a break up against Ons Jabeur at the Italian Open last week before losing their quarter-final clash in three. The 26-year-old owns just one WTA title from the 2019 Rabat Open but she is a player capable very deep runs at prestigious tournaments, finishing runner-up to Iga Swiatek at Indian Wells back in March. Sakkari became the first Greek to qualify for the WTA Finals last season after stunning runs to the semi-finals of both Roland-Garros and the US Open, losing to the eventual champions on both occasions in Barbora Krejcikova and Emma Raducanu, respectively.
World number 95 Clara Burel has struggled for form all season long and the 21-year-old has lost in the first round in four of her last five Grand Slam appearances. The Frenchwoman reached the third round at Roland-Garros on her debut in 2020 but this looks too steep a climb against a player set for the latter stages. Back Sakkari to win in straight sets.
