THE PREDICTION
World number 12 Cam Norrie is the defending champion at the Los Cabos Open after beating Brandon Nakashima here last season. The 26-year-old had been impressively improving throughout 2021 but it his rise and rise ever since has been nothing short of remarkable, with four ATP titles to his name including a first Masters title from Indian Wells. The Brit is playing his first match since losing to eventual Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in four sets in the semi-finals but his consistency should keep him above water in this first meeting with rising Taipei star Chun-hsin Tseng. The 20-year-old will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 81st after beating Nick Chappell in straight sets but this is a significantly tougher test. Norrie is defending a title for the first time in his career but the third seed is usually rock-solid against those ranked beneath him. The suitably cautious move is taking him outright given his extended break but Norrie should be able to win this first meeting in two.
