World number 55 Caroline Garcia could be a serious threat to the latter stages of Wimbledon this fortnight after winning the eighth WTA title of her career, almost completely out of the blue, at the Bad Homburg Open. Her seventh WTA title also came on grass at the Nottingham Open back in 2019 and a comeback victory over Bianca Andreescu in the final on Saturday suggests she will take some beating at SW19, where she reached the round of 16 in 2017. The former world number four remains a loose cannon, though, and a first meetings with wildcard Yuriko Miyazaki is exactly the kind of match she has tripped up on in the past. Miyazaki beat Magdalena Frech at the Nottingham Open before tight defeat to eventual champion Beatriz Haddad-Maia and the 26-year-old will be well-backed by the home crowd on Monday. With a short turnaround from a title to the first round here, taking former world number four Garcia to win outright is the suitably cautious move.
